M.F.A. students in the Division of Art develop ambitious, interdisciplinary practices within a rigorous and supportive studio environment. Through close mentorship with faculty, visiting artists, critics and curators, students build professional exhibition experience, refine their conceptual and technical approaches and engage deeply with contemporary artistic discourse.

Graduates of the program continue into careers as exhibiting artists, educators, curators, designers, arts administrators and creative researchers while contributing to local, national and international art communities.

Faculty

The Division of Art faculty is composed of nationally and internationally active artists, scholars and educators working across a wide range of contemporary practices and disciplines. Faculty maintain active exhibition, research and publication records while providing close mentorship and critical dialogue within the studio environment.

In addition to faculty mentorship, M.F.A. students engage with an ongoing visiting artist and curator program that brings artists, critics, scholars and curators to campus for lectures, workshops, exhibitions, studio visits and conversations throughout the academic year.

Graduate students in the M.F.A. program can use the private or two-person studios in ok×ÊÔ´Íø Meadows’ Prothro Suite.

Prothro Suite for Graduate Studies

Serves as one of the studio spaces for graduate students in the M.F.A. program. The private or two-person studios are used for independent artmaking, experimentation and studio visits. These spaces support daily dialogue, critique and exchange among peers and arts professionals while giving students room to develop ambitious bodies of work throughout the program. Additional graduate studio spaces are also located at 2701 Fondren on ok×ÊÔ´Íø’s east campus.

Student works are often on display in the Pollock Gallery at ok×ÊÔ´Íø Meadows School of the Arts.

Pollock Gallery

A public-facing exhibition space that presents professional artists and contemporary exhibitions throughout the year while also serving as a site for student exhibitions and programming. Each spring, the gallery hosts the M.F.A. Qualifying Exhibition, showcasing work by graduating students in the Division of Art.

Dallas continues to invest in the largest arts district in the country, located a few minutes from campus, in which the Meadows School of the Arts plays a growing role. The Division of Art seeks artists for graduate studies who wish to participate in the diverse arts opportunities of Dallas-Fort Worth and the North Texas region. Dallas Contemporary organizes the North Texas Graduate Program, in which an invited notable curator visits the studios of graduating students who applied for the program. The inaugural year was 2024–25, and the program will run for at least the next five years. Selected students were invited to exhibit their works at Dallas Contemporary and had opportunities to meet and work with the curator as well as Dallas-based curators.
